Summer Ball

Summer Ball is the biggest event in Kent Union’s calendar, with 3,000 students gathering on campus to celebrate the end of the academic year.

With fairground rides and games, food trucks, numerous bars and the huge main stage, this is an event to remember. The Luminary team is onsite from sunrise to well past sunset capturing every moment with outstanding social, photo and video content.

When covering the Kent Union Summer Ball, we discussed the importance of balancing capturing what the event offers as well as students attending and enjoying the event. Whilst the event partially sells based on artist bookings, we also needed to push the idea that it is the ‘biggest end of year party’, and a chance to make memories of a lifetime with their peers.

For this client it was really important to make sure we were capturing footage that was versatile and sustainable. We needed to be as strategic as possible in capturing footage that can be used not only to round up the current event, but to promote future Summer Ball’s and similar events the union hosts, as well as tying in with their other sub brands such as their Welcome Branding.

We delivered a 1 minute trailer, capturing the essence of the event, balancing clips of artist features against students attending, to really show how fun and big this event is for the Union. The end product strongly reflects the Summer Ball branding by using a frame to surround the video, tying the footage into the physical branding.
